Field Service Technicians – Northern California

Bay4 Energy Services, a national leader in the management and servicing of commercial solar power plants, is seeking experienced electrical technicians to maintain and repair photovoltaic sites in northern California

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Respond to tickets from dispatch.
  • Routine site maintenance.
  • Oversight of 3rd party technicians.
  • Preventative Maintenance, including detailed notes, descriptions of issues and photos.
  • Handle warranty repair and replacement.
  • Troubleshoots issues as they arise; evaluates alternatives and proposes solutions.
  • Test, Analyze, and Repair problems in Photovoltaic Inverters and monitoring (DAS) Systems, as well as other components of large (>30KW) PV power plants.
  • Perform moderately complex but repetitive testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Uses, maintains, and secures test devices and tools used to adjust, calibrate, and repair equipment; including clamp-on meters, PQA, IV Curve tracer.
  • Ensures that service commitments are met within expected response time.
  • Manages vehicle inventory and restocks as necessary.
  • Completes required paperwork (time sheets, service orders, forms, inventory, expense reports, and equipment related items).

Qualifications

  • 5+ years electrical experience
  • Appropriate licensing to work as electrician in the designated area.
  • Working knowledge of solar industry best practices, NEC requirements, and diagnosis/repair of common solar failures.
  • Ability to work well with subcontracted Construction personnel in resolution of issues identified in the field during that phase of a project.
  • Ability to take detailed documentation and assessment of any/all task at hand
  • NABCEP certification or other component specific solar certifications a plus

SCADA Engineer – Solar

POSITION SUMMARY:

Serve as a systems engineer and project manager for projects at existing PV plants which exceed the scope of ordinary O&M work, especially in terms of improvements to the plant Data Acquisition System (DAS) or remote Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, as well as providing level 2 technical support to the O&M group for troubleshooting and repair of installed DAS and SCADA systems. The ideal candidate is not only well versed in DAS and SCADA design including, communication protocols, data loggers, SCADA limitations, and DAS troubleshooting, but is able to use this knowledge to assist both field service staff and portfolio managers in effectively resolving problems and improving installations. Candidates should have a strong background in medium voltage power systems including protection relays. 

This position is located in Tucson, Arizona. Requires 25% travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • · Project manage and implement upgrades or improvements to PV powerplants, especially those related to Data Acquisition (DAS) and Supervisory Control (SCADA) systems, as well as management of other projects at existing PV plants beyond the scope of ordinary O&M work.
  • Manage special projects for existing customers to troubleshoot maintenance and performance issues at PV plants and Energy Storage systems.
  • Support O&M portfolio managers and field technicians by providing consulting, by telephone, email and in person to assist in the resolution of DAS and SCADA issues.
  • Use analytic tools to determine chain of events and root causes behind protection equipment such as SEL relays and advanced circuit breakers tripping PV plants offline. Develop protocols for collection of necessary data by field technicians.
  • Provides technical expertise in design, development and systems integration, as assigned.
  • Research/troubleshoot equipment failure (DAS, SCADA, inverters, PV modules and other elements of PV plants) or performance issues to solve production problems.
  • Proactively work on preventative measures to help improve system performance.
  • Owns project schedule; responsible for conducting team meetings, delegating tasks, and managing project activities across multiple departments and functions.
  • Support the O&M group on occasion as a field engineer by conducting inspections and/or performing corrective maintenance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education and/or Experience

  • ·Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a technology related field (Engineering, Computer Science, Physics)
  • NABCEP certification or other component specific solar certifications helpful
  • Successful passing of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in Electrical Engineering, or prior registration as either a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or an Engineer in Training (EIT).
  • Experience in one or more of the following project management, technical problem solving, PV power plants, large scale energy storage systems.

LEAD NETWORK & DESKTOP SUPPORT

Manages the desk top support processes and systems for the company. As a working leader, provides direct support to end users on a variety of issues. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems. Documents, tracks and monitors issues to ensure a timely resolution. Also responsible for administration and internal support of all Bay4 technology equipment (PCs, printers, servers, phone systems and related equipment). Individual tasks include inventory management, end user support, license tracking, and performing equipment/network maintenance, upgrades and configurations.

Location: Tucson, AZ or Safety Harbor, FL

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes, adjusts and monitors the desktop support processes and procedures
  • Mentors and manages the desktop support specialists
  • Serves as the subject expert for desk top support at all company locations
  • Provide help desk support and resolve problems to the end user’s satisfaction.
  • Establish service ticketing process and identify and organize such according to priority.
  • Modify configurations, utilities, software default settings, etc. for the Bay4 computer network.
  • Install, test and configure new workstations, peripheral equipment and software.
  • Maintain and configure hosted sites.
  • Manage mobile devices (cellular modems, phones and tablets) and maintain accounts.
  • Assign users and computers to proper groups in Active Directory.
  • Maintain inventory of all equipment, software and software licenses.
  • On-boarding new users, as well as off-boarding of exiting employees.
  • Document internal procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Information Systems, Business, Communications or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Expertise in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, SQL and .Net technologies; Microsoft office Suite
  • Strong aptitude in OS repairs, spy ware and virus removal, hardware, upgrades and troubleshooting and network security configuration

ASSET MANAGER (Contract Administration)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages the tasks and activities, from inception through termination, necessary to comply with the contractual, financial and regulatory requirements for operating assigned solar projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review and manage contractual and project related documentation
  • Monitor and track project deliverables, tasks and obligation to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance is met.
  • Prepare periodic customer reporting packages.  Reporting packages include but are not limited to: operating data, financial data, energy production data, assessments of actual vs. budget and weather adjusted models.
  • Manage renewable energy credits including recording generation, processing sales and ensuring contractual commitments are met.
  • Serve as a key interface with project owners, off-takers, investors and other stakeholders
  • Maintain consistent communication with internal departments and coordinate cross-functional activities to uphold asset profitability, contractual compliance, and resolve customer issues.
  • Entry and maintenance of contractual and project related information in company’s asset management software
  • Review of customer billing data and invoices
  • Deliver ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Undergraduate degree or its equivalent
  • 1-3 years’ experience in customer service, or similar role
